What:     "DITA in a Day" Workshop

Where:   Oakland Waterfront Hotel (to get there)

When:    August 8, 2009 (9:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.)

Who:      Open to all STC members and non-members


Anna van Raaphorst and Dick Johnson will teach a workshop that will have you creating DITA content before the day is over.

What you will learn:

  • Basic concepts
  • Key benefits
  • Processing fundamentals
  • Project planning tips
  • Challenges of a simple and of a complex DITA project

What you will receive:

  • A CD with the DITA Open Toolkit ready for in-class installation
  • A reference manual
  • Assistance installing the Open Toolkit
  • Guidance in authoring your own version of the Open Toolkit's "garage sample"
  • Practice in building, debugging, and outputting your content
  • Morning and afternoon beverages and light snacks

What you will need:

  • Your laptop
  • A pre-installed evaluation copy of Altova's XMLSpy Editor
  • $10 for parking (with a validated receipt)
  • Lunch money (for any of the many restaurants in the area)
  • A paid registration
  • A desire to become DITA-savvy in a short timeframe

    1:00 p.m. -   2:30 p.m. Workshop

    3:00 p.m. -   3:30 p.m. Workshop

Parking in the Washington Street Garage and Underground Parking (underneath Barnes & Noble). Get a parking validated receipt for $10 at the end of class.

Train Stations / Ferry

A few blocks walk from a BART station or the Jack London Square Amtrak station. A short walk from the Ferry dock at Jack London Square.
